Day 2 - Ask and Receive

By Pastor Tim Escamilla

Matthew 7:7-8
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

There is something special about asking God for something; we see it all throughout the Bible. People asking God for something, and Him coming through with the something they were asking for. There is something special that happens when you ask God for something! When we ask God for something, we prove that we are relying on Him. It proves that our trust is in Him, and no one else.

The main thing I feel led to ask Him for is to bring me closer to Him. Do you feel that, too? Because if we do, He says it will be given to us. If we seek being closer to Him, we will find being closer to Him. And yes, if we knock on the door of being closer to Him, being closer to Him will be opened to us!

He's not cruel that He would deny us in asking for closeness to Him! In fact, He moves with compassion, and in His tender mercies, He brings us closer to Him! If we ask to be brought closer to Him, HE WILL bring us closer to Him. That is what this dedication is all about: being brought closer and closer to Him. What is He calling you to do today that will help bring you closer to Him? Using only positive words? Exercise? Fast food? Fast entertainment? Read Godly stories for the kids' bedtimes? Getting lost in worship? Diving deep into Scripture? Whatever it is, do it to get closer to Him. And ask Him to bring you closer to Him.

Pray this with me:
"Lord, closeness to You is what I long for. Bring me closer to You! Draw me into Your presence. Let me be closer to You, that it would be easier for me to love and follow Your commandments. That it would be easier to love and enjoy Your word. I seek to be closer to you; help me find what I seek. My life is Yours, my heart is Yours, all that I am is Yours. One thing I ask, that I may be closer to You. Amen."
