Day 3 - Worship in Holiness

By Pastor Tim Escamilla

Psalm 96:9
Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!

Yesterday (Tuesday) I had a very special time in the presence of God. As I was praying and worshiping, I was struck with awe in His holiness! All I could think of was the fact that I was in the presence of the Holy God. There is splendor in His holiness. For quite some time, I couldn't move and could only cry tears of worship and reverence. All I desired in those moments was to be holy as He is holy, in a way that is a sacrifice of worship to Him.

I was trembling before Him because His holiness changes everything. His holiness is non-negotiable in the life of the Christian! He led me to read a book I've had for years and years yet haven't read. It's called, "The Holiness of God" by R.C. Sproul. He writes about holiness, "There can be no worship, no spiritual growth, no true obedience without it. It defines our goal as Christians. God has declared, 'Be holy, because I am holy.'"

His holiness sets Him entirely above and apart from creation. He alone is holy. And yet, in His perfect plan, He has chosen to make US holy, too. That's why He says be holy as I am holy! I'll share one more verse to help us be more in awe of Him and His holiness, and hopefully it will encourage us to live in holiness. Read it carefully and slowly:

"For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: 'I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite,'" (Isaiah 57:15, ESV).

Pray this with me:
"Holy God, I am in awe of You. I praise You in the splendor of Your holiness! Help me to live each day in reverence of Your holiness; help me to be holy as You are holy. May that be the goal of my life, until I see You face to face. Grow me in Your holiness! I humbly thank You for this incredible privilege and honor. Yours is the glory. Amen."
