Day 14 - Happy and Satisfied

By Pastor Tim Escamilla

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

These are the words of our Lord Jesus. They are a part of the Beatitudes and they convey the foundation for those living in the kingdom of God. In them, Jesus shares some of the most important values in the kingdom of God. He shares truths that are simple, and yet, are beyond this world. Because they are not of this world, these truths are not comfortable to our flesh; they don't come naturally. But if we learn to live them, then we will be blessed!

Take note that Jesus says we're blessed when we hunger and thirst for righteousness. He's not saying we're blessed when we're filled after hungering and thirsting for righteousness; no, He says we're blessed in the very act of hungering and thirsting for righteousness!

Life is better when we hunger for righteousness! Life is better when we live for righteousness and holiness. The word that Jesus uses for blessed can also be translated as happy; we're happy when we hunger and thirst for righteousness. There's something that makes us happy when we walk in our God given callings. This is one of those callings.

Finally, Jesus finishes with us not only being blessed, but also satisfied. We're happy and satisfied when we hunger and thirst for righteousness. We're filled to our satisfaction. Have you ever had a cold drink on a hot day? Have you ever eaten something that was so good, you wanted to eat it as fast as you could? What do we say when these things happen? "That hit the spot!" or "I needed that!" Either way, this is what we feel when we hunger and thirst for righteousness. It really hits the spot.

Pray with me:
"Lord, help the values of Your kingdom to come naturally to me. Help me to overcome my desires and my flesh. Most importantly, help me to hunger and thirst for righteousness. Thank You that as I do, I will be happy and satisfied. Thank You for the benefits of following You!"
